Bollywood’s craft and labour unions agreed a settlement on Friday, with workers returning to their projects on Saturday. The settlement saw their working obligations limited to a maximum 12-hours a day. The 100,000 person strike had lasted three days – and cost producers billions of Rupees.
The production studios have also agreed to pay staff within 15 days of
work being completed, and to limit hirings to union members. "The
workers have faith in the producers," Dinesh Chaturvedi, general
secretary of the Federation of Western Cine Employees, told Agence
France Press. "Now it's up to the producers to have faith in workers."
The union had stated that a typical work day for its members could
reach 20 hours, and that payments were often withheld for months.
