Freeview New Zealand had its best-ever quarter between July and September, with 37,980 receiver sales over the three months.
The free-to-air digital platform, which has both a satellite and a
digital-terrestrial version, has seen overall sales of 160,496 units
(set-tops and integrated digital TVs) since the platform launched in
May 2007. That equates to around 10% of New Zealand homes or some
380,000 members of the population.
Freeview HD, the digital-terrestrial version of the platform, is
growing rapidly, with 27,319 HD capable receivers sold since launch in
April this year. There are five integrated digital TVs on the market.
Another channel, ChineseTV8, has also been added to the Freeview HD
line-up, bringing the total number of TV channels on DTT to 11, while
the satellite service has 12.
