wooo.jpgHitachi has unveiled its ultra-thin Wooo range of super-skinny HDTV flat panel screens. Hitachi used Japan’s high-tech CEATEC trade event to showcase its latest thinking in LCD and Plasma-based screens, both of which achieve lightness, thinness and consumer-friendly power savings.

These sets are super thin. Hitachi’s LCD units are just 0.6 inches “thick” (15mm) while the Plasma models are at 1.4 inches (35mm) overall. Power supply is said to be some 50% less than current models, and echoes Hitachi’s commitment to see power consumption on all their production models to be at least 50% improved by next year.

Hitachi is also backing greater consumer choice in terms of decorative screen frames. As well as the usual black and neutral brushed aluminium they’ll be offering bezels with a wide range of colours and designs.
