Russia’s CTC Media holding company (NASDAQ quoted) has bought 51% of Moldovan TV companies Teledixi and Muzic Ramil for US$4.1m.

In a statement CTC Media said that the company plans to launch broadcasts of the refreshed TV channel by the end of 2008. The director-general of CTC Media, Anton Kudryashov, expressed confidence that the project will be a success in Moldova, which is "a state with developing economy and a potential for further growth of the TV advertisement market".

According to the head of the Teledixi company, Dan Lozovan, "partnership with CTC Media is meant to, first and foremost, meet expectations of TV viewers in terms of the high quality of the product in compliance with the Moldovan legislation".

The Teledixi and Muzic Ramil companies came on air in Moldova in 2001. The companies have their own frequencies in 10 Moldovan towns including Chisinau. The technical coverage of the channel involves 98% of Moldova's territory. The TV companies have modern transmission facilities including broadcasts of a multi-channel satellite station and they own two TV studios which allows them to provide for up to 10 hours of daily broadcasts of their own programmes.

Earlier this year CTC, which claims it is now Russia’s leading independent media company, raised $135m in a syndicated loan facility.
