The powerful Writers Guild of America (WGA) has blacklisted Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s TV show. The WGA has written to its members saying they could end up being fined if they accept a writing gig on the FremantleMedia-produced show, which airs on Fox TV.
"Any members who perform writing services on that show do so at their
own peril as they will be violating WGA Working Rule 8 and could be
fined up to 100% of their compensation for that work," says the WGA
letter.
WGA adds that it had been negotiating an approved contract for its
members, but that Fremantle had pulled the plug on the talks.
Fremantle, according to sources, say it was the opposite way around and
that the WGA had walked away from the table.
Ozzy and Sharon’s popular show is not the first Fremantle effort to run
into stormy waters with the WGA. A year ago US gameshow Temptation was
similarly cited, as was American Idol.
