The world can dance to Hulu | Print |  Forward

Chris Forrester, on 09-10-2008

hulu.jpgHulu is to go global. Backed by NBC-Universal and News Corp, Hulu is an online web-video delivery service and portal. A senior News Corp staffer says that Hulu could be launching some local versions by year-end.

Peter Chernin, News Corp’s president, told trade magazine TBI that “We will probably look to do a series of joint ventures in local markets to roll out Hulu internationally.”

Besides showing popular NBC and Fox series to US audiences, Hulu carried this week’s US presidential debate live, its first live streaming activity, and will be carrying next week’s Oct 15 follow-up debate.

For local versions of Hulu, however, News/NBC’s local partners will have to clear rights which might be complex. Currently viewers to Hulu can watch the very latest episodes of Heroes as well as 24 on a mix that includes ‘channels’ and popular streamed content in the form of clips and outtakes as well as movies and music.

Bonjour. Thank you for the Info. I am a geek from the 1.0 web, when we thought that the Web was to be a non-frontier area, a web upon the nations. I cannot stand any more these "drm" censures renationalizaing the world wide web... Arte +7 is not availbale for the uk residents, the bbc.co.uk radio websites also have added such restrictions for their podcasts. That's a pity. Have you already written on this subject ? if so I would be interested to read you. Best regards.
