German pay-TV operator Premiere is considering all options regarding its satellite platform Premiere Star, including a sale.
New CEO Mark Williams, who is currently restructuring the troubled
broadcaster, has offered the subsidiary to other media companies,
reports German financial newspaper Handelsblatt quoting sources
involved in the situation.
A firm decision has not been made yet. As an alternative, Williams is
considering fully acquiring Premiere Star. The Munich-based parent
company currently owns 60% with the remaining shares held by minority
shareholders including HypoVereinsbank, Turner Broadcasting System,
EM.Sport Media and financial investors. The shareholders estimate
Premiere Star’s value to be around €120 million.
The package, which launched on September 1 2007, comprises 18 thematic
channels which are distributed on Astra (19.2° East) to DTH households
in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein as well as on cable
networks. The offer, which costs €19.99 per month, has more than
200,000 subscribers.
