According to business daily La Tribune, TF1 Group is looking at taking over broadcaster the AB Group.
France’s leading broadcaster and TV group TF1 already owns 33.5% of AB Group, including a 40% stake in leading DTT channel TMC. TF1, eager to strengthen its position on DTT, would be motivated by fully owning TMC, which reached 2.3% national audience share in 2008.
AB Group is the operator of several free and pay-TV channels such as TMC, NT1, RTL 9 but also AB3 and AB4 in Belgium. Claude Berda’s group also owns a library of 1,300 French-speaking programming titles, that represent around 37,000 hours.
For now, TF1 has denied the news. No concrete talks would be taking place.
